Plant Variety Rights (PVRs)

Plant Variety Rights (PVRs)

Plant variety rights (PVRs) protect new varieties or cultivars of plants e.g. a new variety of apple or kiwifruit.

PVRs give plant breeders the exclusive right to commercialise a particular variety, including to sell propagation material like cuttings or seeds. PVRs help promote innovation and economic growth providing incentives for the development and use of new plant varieties.

We can assist with advice and the filing of new PVRs in New Zealand and Australia.
